Programs We Offer

The educational enrichment programs serve 35 school districts in the region including ONC BOCES schools, DCMO BOCES schools, parochial and private schools, as well as home schools.  The programs are provided free of charge to students thanks to the support from business and community sponsors.  The following is a summary of the programs we support:

SPELLING BEE REGIONAL COMPETITION


All Students 6th through 8th Grade

2018: SATURDAY, MARCH 3

10:00 am - SUNY ONEONTA

  • Fee to Districts: Districts pay SCRIPPS Spelling Bee fee, one school     
     champion competes at this event.
  • Award: Regional Champion and one adult chaperone receive travel and            accommodations funds to join the National Spelling Bee Competition to be        held in Washington, DC.

BOYS CAREER EXPLORATION DAY


It’s a Guy Thing

Boys 6th through 8th Grade

2017: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14

8:00 am to 1:30 pm - SUNY ONEONTA

  • Fee to Districts: None
  • Cost to Districts: No cost. Schools provide transportation to SUNY Oneonta.      Lunch and materials will be provided.
  • Other: One chaperone per 10 Students

SUMMER STEAM INSTITUTES


STEAM Summer Camps

All Students 6th through 8th Grade

2018: Month of July (Topics and Dates TBA)

Programs run 8:00 am to 1:30 pm

Morrisville State College (Norwich) & SUNY Oneonta

  • Fee to Districts: None
  •       Some programs have a nominal fee and provide scholarships for those             who can’t afford the cost.

We believe that parents are a critical part of enrichment education.  We also know that children benefit from early exposure to careers and educational experiences.  The following is a summary of some of the resources we use to learn new ideas and to improve our educational enrichment programs:

MONEY EDUCATION FOR KIDS

CAREER DEVELOPMENT 


A college degree, knowing the job, or being the brightest student will work best if you learn and apply the 21st Century Skills needed for the jobs of the future.  This short video describes the skills. 



STEM  SUMMER INSTITUTES


The STEM Institute is a local resource for schools in the DCMO and the ONC BOCES to participate in a week-long educational opportunity to learn Science - Technology - Engineering - Math.

The WomenInSTEM video series is designed to inspire the next generation of STEM professionals, while raising the profile of women who are leading transformative change across the energy sector, from addressing the growing threat of climate change...
EXPLORING ENGINEERING

A guide to engineering careers for high school girls!  Imagine what life would be like without pollution controls to preserve the environment, life-saving medical equipment, or low-cost building materials for fighting global poverty. All this takes engineering.

Kids and Science: Pointers for Parents

Making Science Make Sense (MSMS) a program of Bayer Corporation, provides tips for parents and caregivers to help nurture and maintain children's interest in science and has developed the MSMS Experiment Guide which consists of fun and instructional experiments that can be done at home.

CAREER EXPLORATION STEM


Family resources, including a Family Guide, STEM Summer Opportunities Guide, and hands-on activities for families, developed by Techbridge, an organization focused on expanding the academic and career options for girls in science, technology, and engineering.

STEM ACTIVITIES AND RESOURCES


The Ultimate STEM Guide for Kids: 239 Cool Sites About Science, Technology, Engineering and Math

This guide features activities and resources designed to get K-12 students engaged and interested in STEM.

DO IT YOURSELF PROJECTS


Instructables is an online place to explore and share science creations, including instructions for recreating them at home.

NASA GIRLS AND BOYS


This new program links a NASA mentor with a student grades 5-8.  Application required.  New information coming soon

INNOVATION CAREER EXPLORATION

You can adapt Time to Invent activities to fit your situation. Use them in settings like an afterschool, classroom, or summer camp.
ENGINEERING FOR GIRLS

The Engineer Girl website is designed to bring national attention to the exciting opportunities that engineering represents for girls and women.  
ANIMATION RESOURCES

Use DESIGN SQUAD NATION activities, animations, video profiles, and episodes in classrooms and after school programs, in libraries and museums, at events and at home.
